RWV Kanopy Movie Group Discussion - Third Thursday each month online via Zoom.

Movie this Month: Three Short Films

Description: We’re watching three shorts this month: Knight of Fortune (24 minutes), The Silence (16 minutes and Do I Have to Take Care of Everything? (6 minutes).

Knight of Fortune, a 2023 Academy Awards nominee, addresses the loss of a loved one, the grief, the risk of yellow skin and a coffin. It is too much for Karl to face. It’s much easier to fix a broken lamp. A chance encounter helps him face his pain.

The Silence was nominated for the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film in 2016. Fatima and her mother are Kurdish refugees in Italy. During a visit with their doctor, Fatima is asked to translate what the doctor tells her, but she keeps silent.

Do I Have to Take Care of Everything? was nominated for the 2011 Academy Award for Best Short Film. Sini wakes in a panic: she has slept in and the family is late for a wedding. She wakes her husband Jokke and their daughters. They start to prepare themselves in a hurry. Mother is going crazy since nobody else seems to be able to do anything right. Who has messed with father’s shirt, hid the girls’ dresses and where is the wedding gift?

Watch the movie before the discussion via the web application "Kanopy" (or other streaming service) anytime before the discussion date and bring your comments and insights to the online discussion.

Kanopy is free through many county library websites.

For more information about how to sign up for Kanopy, for the link to the movie trailer, and to gain access to the link to the Kanopy Zoom movie discussion, click on this event.

Our fifth Listen Lunch Learn session will cover two related areas with extensive group discussions and other interactive ‘work’.

The first segment will be on Village Maturity. You will examine the types of maturity characteristics with fellow members of your Village that progress to ideal results. And find what is needed to improve the overall maturity of your Village.

The second segment…As a Village develops maturity and ability, relationships are established and leadership styles can change. Situational Leadership is a flexible model that takes into account tasks and relationships to find an ideal style to lead individuals and groups.

Listen Lunch Learn workshops are open to Village leaders, key volunteers and those who may get involved on a team or in an administrative capacity. We encourage you to extend personal invitations to those you feel might be interested. Listen Lunch Learn is funded by a grant from the Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation of the Oregon Community Foundation. Lunch will be served.

Registration Not Required: Click on this event for the link to the October 31st Zoom meeting.

Description: Building on our “Follow the Money” session in May, the Finance Reorganization Team developed an orientation called “TRUST (Treasurers’ Responsibilities and Understanding Standard Transactions”. It is designed as an introduction to the tasks and timelines for managing Village finances. This is a great opportunity for Village Treasurers and others on your teams to learn about this important function for operating a successful Village.

The orientation will give Village leaders a better understanding of the information your Treasurer needs in order to complete their tasks, and hopefully help in recruiting backup to cover when your Treasurer is away or potential successors when a transition occurs.
